4 Ways to have an interactive and enjoyable wedding dinner
Most of us have been to weddings of colleagues, friends or relatives that we’re not particularly close to. Maybe you hadn’t even met their other half until the day of the wedding. At weddings like that, it’s easy to feel like you’re just there to make up the numbers. What makes it worse is that there’s a pretty standard sequence for banquets – march-ins, champagne pouring, and speeches that can be quite hit-or-miss.
So if you’re looking for ways to add variety and make your wedding more memorable for your guests, then here are some ideas!
Notes and cards
Get some stationery to place at your reception table and/or on every table, with some instructions or templates for your guests to:
- Write their well-wishes for the couple
- Suggest date ideas, honeymoon destinations, or next travel adventure
- Share a memory from their personal history with the bride and/or groom
For an added incentive, get the bridesmaids or groomsmen to help review the entries and pick one for a special prize!
Interactive Q&A
You might be familiar with this from (try not to groan) company townhalls or conferences. But hey, there’s no reason why it can’t be adapted for a wedding! Create an event on Pigeonhole for your guests to submit and vote on questions, then answer the top few towards the end of the night (or afternoon, if you’re doing lunch). This is an easy (and free!) way for your guests to get to know you a little better, and lets you be a lot more candid than in the formal speeches and thank-yous.
DIY stations
DIY and craft sessions are getting more popular for stag/hen parties, but we’re only starting to see this trend take off during the actual wedding. Have your guests create something memorable that they can take home for themselves – this could be their very own tea blend, potpourri and fragrances, or even a terrarium!
Open mic
Ah, the perfect opportunity to sabo your talented but shy friends. Or, the ideal platform for your relatives to show off their well-honed singing abilities! If you have a live band that’s game, this would be great entertainment for one and all.
